Golf Course
The Golf Course at Germantown Country Club was designed and built under the supervision of famous golf course designer and architect, J. Press Maxwell, in 1969. The Golf Course was opened along with the other club facilities in July of 1970.
Since the initial inception and construction of the 7,003 yard Championship Golf Course, many additions and changes to the course have taken place. Currently we have TifEagle grass on the greens and 419 Bermuda grass on all the fairways and collars. Germantown Country Club has the finest putting surface all 12 months of the year of any club in the area.
Germantown Country Club has been selected to host the final Qualifying Rounds for the United States Open Golf Tournament by the USGA on four different occasions. We have also been host to national tournaments for both high school and inter-collegiate golf organizations.
The Club is proud to be a member of the PGA, USGA, TGA and the MGA. These organizations offer tournament competition in which many of our members participate.
Germantown Country Club is proud to offer a number of opportunities for the membership to showcase their talent in competition. Every year March – October GCC offers tournaments on weekends and holidays that all members are welcome to participate in. The major GCC events are the Member Guest, Member/Member, Club Championship, and the Senior Club Championship.
Ladies are welcome to play golf anytime the golf course is open. Ladies day is Wednesday morning April through October. Every spring the Ladies Golf Association schedules a luncheon to welcome any newcomers that might be interested in joining the 9 or 18-hole group. Along with the weekly competition associated with the ladies golf association, there are two tournaments open to all lady members, the Ladies Member Guest and the Ladies Club Championship.
A ladies’ golf clinic is scheduled in the spring of each year to introduce ladies to the game and as a spring “tune up” for advanced players.
To improve the enjoyment of our Junior Golfers we have created a separate set of family tees. The family tees measure 3540 yards in length for 18 holes. We have also created a special scorecard for the Juniors to use.
Juniors are an integral part to the future of the game of golf and to the future of Germantown Country Club. In order for juniors to be the best they can be, the only times juniors, ages 12 and older, are limited from playing on the golf course are on Saturday and Sunday before 11 am. Juniors ages 11 and under must be accompanied by a parent at all times. Every summer juniors (ages 6-17) may take part in the weeklong junior golf school, which focuses on improving their golf swing along with showing the juniors proper golf etiquette and sportsmanship. Along with the Junior golf school, juniors (ages 6-14) may take part in the weeklong Summer Sports Camps, which focus on golf, tennis, and swimming. To round out the summer GCC holds the annual Junior Club Championship that gives the juniors a chance to showcase their newfound talent.
Germantown Country Club offers excellent practice facilities to work on every aspect of your golf game. The driving range has five target greens with surrounding bunkers to give you a realistic on-course feel while practicing. Our large split-level putting green has an adequate number of hole locations to give you many different styles of putts and the opportunity to work on your distance control. Not to leave anything out GCC has a separate green to practice any shot inside 100 yards. You can practice chip shots, pitch shots, and there are two bunkers to practice greenside and fairway bunker shots.
Here at Germantown Country Club we understand that in order to maximize your enjoyment on the golf course it starts on the practice facilities. Along with excellent practice facilities, we have two very qualified PGA Professionals to help make sure that you are working on the right things. Group or Individual lessons are available from the Head PGA Golf Professional, Keith Penke or Casey Cass. Video lessons are available on request.
